SPIFFs
Definition
Sales Performance Incentive Fund -- short-term bonus incentives offered to salespeople for selling specific products, hitting particular targets, or achieving strategic goals.
SPIFFs are tactical incentives used to drive specific short-term behaviors, such as pushing a new product, closing deals before quarter-end, or generating pipeline for a new segment. They are typically paid on top of the regular comp plan and can be cash bonuses, gift cards, trips, or other rewards. When used strategically, SPIFFs align individual motivation with business priorities, but overuse can distort selling behavior.
